BRT allegedly made a misuse of the government kitty, says report
PESHAWAR, (Muhammad Abbas) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government started the biggest public transport project “Bus Rapid Transit” (BRT) in a hurry, the planning for BRT was bad, and there were made a number of mistakes while designing its map, which allegedly made a misuse of national kitty, and it is one of the reason due to which project is not completed on time, said the provincial inspection team.
The proceedings are proposed against the officers, who were involved in the bad planning and allegedly in making the misuse of national exchequer, said in a 27 pages report.
It is remembered that the KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan took a strict notice on BRT in the previous week, and he also ordered to investigate it. After that the responsibility of investigation was attended to provincial inspection team.
Erstwhile the provincial government discharged the provincial Secretary of Transport and Peshawar Development Authority Director General from their post. Both officers were handed over the charge of BRT construction and other affairs to look after.
Changes were made in the project design most of the time, it was also seen that many parts of the project were constructed but they were broke due to errors, which made its cost high, said in a report.
Road of three stations of BRT corridor were found less than the fixed volume, the break ups were made on these stations, in response to it the provincial government came under severe criticism, according to inspection team report.
No planning was made for the nearer road to BRT, when the main road was constructed, it was known that the road is tight, which made hurdles in the flow of traffic, and public also faced severe difficulties, said in a report.
It is said in a report that on some places where pedestrians were walking approximately 1600 meters due no crossing points and no corridors to bus stations, which made difficulties for public as well as it made enhancement in traffic jam on nearer roads. There were made no proper road-crossing system for pedestrians, said the report.
Foreigner experts were hired for designing regardless of defects were found in the project. They were paid more than 1 billion in this regard, the government sources said.
It is remembered that the project was started in the Ex-CM Pervez Khattak tenure and it is promised to complete in the six months but after went on one and half year the project is still under pending.
Last month the current KP CM announced to inaugurate the project on March 23 in every situation, but this time the KP government also failed. Later on, Mahmood Khan took a strict notice of it and ordered to investigate the project.
It is also to discuss that the NAB regarding the project submitted an initial investigation report of 6.8 billion in Peshawar High Court. The NAB report is sealed on PHC orders to not delay this project anymore.
Due to the constantly delay and defects found in the project, the Pakistan Tehreek Insaf Government in federal and provinces under the severe criticism and pressure from media and opposition political parties.
